Lucia Mar district: ’Tis time to go back to school

clambert@thetribunenews.comAugust 21, 2014

School started Wednesday for about 10,649 students in the Lucia Mar Unified School District. It was also the first day of class for about 95 new teachers in the South County district, some of whom were added as district officials reduced class sizes and provided services for nine special-education classrooms previously served by the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education.

The district also added an all-day preschool program at Fairgrove Elementary, run by the San Luis Obispo YMCA, and hired a Mandarin-language teacher for Fairgrove Elementary and Judkins Middle School.

The Cayucos, Paso Robles, Pleasant Valley, San Miguel, Shandon and Templeton districts also start school this week. The remaining districts in the county — Atascadero, Coast and San Luis Coastal — head back toschool next week.
