A cautionary tale

San Luis ObispoJuly 17, 2014

In hopes of giving my children an exciting summer, we decided to walk across the dried up Laguna Lake. What a mistake!

We were able to walk across the lake; however, several areas consisted of very thick sludge. Both my son and I got stuck in the mud. It took us more than 20 minutes to dig ourselves out.

It was scary but also very embarrassing. What was I thinking to take my children across the lake? Our little adventure could’ve ended in a very serious tragedy. Luckily, my kids are healthy and safe.

There are no warning signs posted, which is why I decided to share my story with the local paper, as embarrassed and stupid as I feel about my choice.

I know common sense should have prevailed in my decision to walk across the lake; however, curiosity got the best of me.

Learn from my mistake: It is obviously not safe or healthy to walk across Laguna Lake.
