Painter in mobile lift electrocuted in Los Angeles

The Associated PressJuly 15, 2014

— Authorities say a painter has been electrocuted after his mobile lift hit power lines in Los Angeles.

City fire spokesman Brian Humphrey says the accident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on a street in Westchester. He was declared dead about 2 ½ hours later.

City News Service says reports from the scene indicate the basket of his mobile lift, or cherry picker, caught fire and burned for several minutes.

Firefighters had to wait for Southern California Edison to cut off power before they could help the man.

His name hasn't been released.
