A Cambria man faces life in prison after a jury convicted him Monday of five felony counts of child molestation.

According to reports from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, Ronald J. Cowan, 57, molested a boy he knew over a period of time, when the boy was between the ages of 3 and 5. Charges were filed against Cowan in 2010, and his trial ended with Monday’s verdict.

After deliberations, the jury convicted him of all counts — including sodomy, oral copulation and lewd act upon a child. As a result, when he is sentenced Aug. 11, Cowan faces a minimum of 55 years to life in prison.

After the jury’s verdict, Cowan, who testified on his behalf during the trial, was taken to County Jail, where he will be held without bail.

He did not have prior convictions for sex crimes.
