Santa Barbara's Studdard hits three homers to sink SLO Blues

sports@thetribunenews.comJuly 9, 2014

Santa Barbara Foresters left fielder Granger Studdard hit home runs in consecutive plate appearances in the second, third and fourth innings, and the trio of homers were just enough to hold off the San Luis Obispo Blues in a summer collegiate baseball game Wednesday.

Blues third baseman Sheldon Neuse was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBI, but the San Luis Obispo comeback ended in a 7-6 loss in Santa Barbara.

The Foresters (25-6, 20-4 California Collegiate League) tagged Blues starter Dominic Taccolini for all seven runs, five earned, in the first four innings, and despite a three-run Blues rally that cut the deficit to one in the fifth, Foresters pitching shut them down after that.

Collin Ferguson was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI, and Cal Poly’s Zack Zehner was 2 for 4 for the Blues Blues (26-9, 16-8 CCL). Studdard was 3 for 4 with three runs and four RBI.
