Thank you for David Sneeds story on what we all stand to gain from the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act (Legislation would add to local wilderness, June 29).
It seems like only yesterday that Lee Wilson, Harold Miossi and Ken Schwartz were relentlessly lobbying lawmakers to pass the bill that created the Santa Lucia Wilderness in 1978. Last April, our Sierra Club chapter was proud to receive the county supervisors resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which made possible our local wilderness areas and the designations in the new bill. Today, we need another chorus of voices calling on our leaders to protect our wild heritage and stand up for our forests, rivers, mountains and grasslands.
We are excited that Matt Sayles of the California Wilderness Coalition will be joining us to speak on the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act at The Face of the Wild, our annual fundraising dinner, happening Aug. 3 at Tolosa Winery. Wed like everyone who wants to support our work preserving the natural environment in SLO County to join us for dinner, music and silent auction, but tickets are limited.
