Austin O’Brien and Jacob Hoyle each homered and collected two hits to power the San Luis Obispo Blues summer collegiate baseball team to a 9-1 home win over the Long Beach Legends on Saturday.

O’Brien finished with four RBI, and Hoyle drove in two runs.

SLO High diver on national platform

San Luis Obispo High diver Blake Griffith has qualified to compete in the USA Diving zones events next weekend in Tucson, Ariz., according to a news release.

Griffith has qualified in the 1- and 3-meter springboard and platform events.

Mathias shines for Team USA again

Cal Poly infielder Mark Mathias had a hit in each game of a doubleheader while playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team against Chinese Taipei on Saturday in Durham, N.C.

Mathias singled in the first game, a scoreless tie, and doubled and drew a bases-loaded walk in a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
