SLO High product Butier gets FCS preseason praise

sports@thetribunenews.comJuly 2, 2014

A fullback for the Northern Arizona football team, former San Luis Obispo High standout Nick Butier received Football Championship Subdivision preseason All-America second-team praise from The Sports Network.

Butier, a junior and former walk-on with the Lumberjacks, earned a role as a starter midseason last year during a run to a second-place finish in the Big Sky Conference.

Primarily a blocker for prolific former Northern Arizona running back Zach Bauman, who is now with the Arizona Cardinals, Butier ran five times for 11 yards and caught five passes for 40  yards and no touchdowns last season.

Cal Poly did not have a player recognized. The Mustangs and Lumberjacks play in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Sept. 27.
