Pups invited to bask in the golden sun at Laguna Lake Park on July 6

Goldens in the Park will be from noon to 4 p.m. on July 6 at Laguna Lake Park in San Luis Obispo. All golden retrievers, along with other breeds of dogs, and their owners are welcome.

Events include oldest golden, best fetch, most balls in mouth, best trick, demonstrations, pet vendors, food and more. The event benefits Woods Humane Society and Animal Shelter Adoption Partners (ASAP). Admission is free.

Children gallop to new adventures

Adventures with Horses’ spring sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to meet, greet, groom and walk gentle equines. Children and parents will enjoy learning about basic equine manners, body language, safety skills and round-pen activities.

Wear closed-toed shoes or boots. Events are at Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary at 6275 Cerros Pioneros Way in San Miguel. Fees are $25 per child; or for families, $15 for first child and $10 each sibling. Register at or 237-3991.

Bike to be raffled for canine rescue

Susie Robertson, owner of Squeaks, Chirps and Bubbles Pet and Feed Store at 1030 Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos, will hold a drawing at 3 p.m. Monday for a $300 BMX boy’s mountain bike.

Proceeds benefit Meade Canine Rescue in Creston. Charlotte Meade will attend to answer questions about her nonprofit rescue operation.
