An Atascadero woman who had been missing since June 19 was found unharmed early Wednesday morning, according to the Atascadero Police Department.

Stephanie Brummond, 58, was located after contacting the San Luis Obispo Police Department and alerting officers of her location.

According to San Luis Obispo police Sgt. Sean Gillham, the department received a phone call from Brummond at approximately 7:50 a.m. and responded to a private residence in San Luis Obispo to contact her. Gillham said Brummond did not appear to have been harmed during her disappearance, but it remained unclear Wednesday evening where Brummond had been since Thursday.

Since officials released information about her disappearance Tuesday, the Atascadero Police Department received numerous reports of sightings in different parts of the county.

She was taken into custody by San Luis Obispo police officers, who then transferred custody to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. As of Wednesday evening, Brummond remained in custody at the County Jail. Atascadero Police Sgt. Jason Carr said Brummond was being held on an unspecified probation hold and was receiving mental health treatment.

Brummond had been missing since her release from the San Luis Obispo County Mental Health Services following an involuntary psychiatric evaluation. Brummond’s sister, Kim Savage, said that Mental Health staff gave Brummond a countywide bus pass upon her release.

As of Wednesday night, family members were en route to visit Brummond at the County Jail.
