Jackson Garland, the 18-year old Los Osos resident killed in a car accident last week, was remembered at a small gathering of friends and family Tuesday at San Luis Obispo High School as calm and collected, a good friend and someone who enjoyed the journey.

Classmates gathered on the grass of Holt Field, where Garland had graduated earlier this month. They were joined by many of Garland’s extended family, who had traveled from Baltimore, Maryland. Garland lived in Los Osos with his mother.

Garland’s family initiated the gathering as a way to meet his friends and give family and friends an opportunity to share their memories and grief.

“He always talked about seeing the good in everybody,” said his brother Johnnie Garland.

Garland’s father, Jim, said he has spent the days following his son’s death walking around in shock. “You can only live for today and do the best you can one day at a time,” he told his son’s friends.
