The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County recently received a $5 million bequest from the estate of a San Luis Obispo businessman.

According to a foundation news release, Tom Halaczkiewicz graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in electrical engineering in 1980 and co-founded Crystal Engineering Corp. in 1982. The San Luis Obispo company, part of AMETEK Inc., designs and manufactures pressure measurement equipment and software.

Halaczkiewicz’s bequest will benefit the foundation’s Leadership Fund, which provides resources to nonprofit organizations throughout the county.

Halaczkiewicz died in August 2011 while hiking on the Cerro Alto trail in the hills northwest of San Luis Obispo.
