An Arroyo Grande man was taken to County Jail early Saturday after his car rolled on Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande, throwing debris into another vehicle.

The man, Randall H. Kight, 49, was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Kight was driving on the Grand Avenue onramp to southbound 101 when he “launched” onto the highway and flipped his 2014 Jeep Wrangler, said CHP Officer Jason McEwen. As his vehicle flipped over a piece of it flew into a 2000 BMW a woman was driving southbound on the highway, he said.

Kight’s vehicle came to a stop on its roof, blocking part of one lane of traffic, a Five Cities Fire spokesman said.

Kight had an abrasion on his forehead and the woman in the BMW was uninjured, McEwen said. “She was pretty shaken. She said nothing like that had ever happened to her before," he said.

The CHP closed one lane of traffic for about 40 minutes while firefighters removed spilled fluids from the roadway and cleared debris, officials said.
