Summer Collegiate Baseball: San Luis Obispo Blues pummel Menlo Park Legends

All nine starters recorded at least one hit, eight scored at least one run, and San Luis Obispo scored at least once in each of the first five innings in a 9-2 drubbing of Menlo Park in a summer collegiate baseball game at SLO Stadium.

Austin O’Brien was 2 for 4 with an RBI, a run and two of the Blues’ five doubles. Erik Lewis, Jacob Hoyle and Joel Atkinson each drove in two runs, and Cal Poly outfielder Zach Zehner scored twice.

Alec Hansen struck out five in five innings to get the win. Hansen walked two and allowed just one hit, a two-run home run by Jordan Winawer in the third inning.

The Blues (14-6, 9-5 California Collegiate League) outhit the Legends 14-4 and, despite stranding 10 runners on base.

Cal Poly first baseman Ryan Drobny was 1 for 4 for Menlo Park (4-10, 3-6).

Casciola helps lead Indians by Wahoos

The North County Indiana scored three runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, and held off a late surge by the California Wahoos to win 7-5 in a summer collegiate baseball game.

Davey Casciola drove in four runs, Christian Priore doubled twice and scored three times, and each of the top four batters in the Indians’ order recorded two hits. Josh Ramirez finished 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Nick Rosen earned the win for North County (6-4), pitching five innings with seven hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
