Energy-efficient neighborhood being built in Grover Beach

    Here's the approximate location of the Green Park neighborhood under construction in Grover Beach.

Green Park, a new neighborhood built to be energy efficient, is emerging in the South County. Construction of the residential development, at Farroll Road and South 16th Street, began in December.

The one-story California farmhouse, Cape Cod and Craftsman-style homes have standard features such as 3.12kW solar systems, in-floor radiant floor heating systems, electric car charging station circuits in the garage, and natural gas powered on-demand water heaters. Fifteen of the 48 homes are in escrow.

Architect: Cody McLaughlin, Shell Beach

Engineers: Dyer Engineering & Land Surveying (civil), Grover Beach; Allshouse Engineering Inc. (structural), San Luis Obispo

Project cost: $22 million

What's happening now: The first seven homes are under construction, with construction ongoing for the next two years. About six to eight homes are expected to be under construction at any one time.
