Carlos Guizar has been honored with the Steve Kniffen Award for this year’s Cambria Little League competition. An outfielder with the Cambria Reds’ Intermediate-level team (11- to 13-year-olds), Guizar plays the game with “enthusiasm, confidence and passion,” according to Reds coach Gary Stephenson.

The Steve Kniffen Award is given to a 12-year-old Little League player from Cambria each year based on his level of “sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field,” and based on a player’s “true love of the game,” Stephenson explained.

Guizar makes “great catches” in the outfield and he constantly strives to “get better”; and notwithstanding his competitive spirit, he is also a “kind soul that other players respect,” Stephenson said. “I see him congratulating players on the other team with the kind of honesty and friendship that I admire,” his coach continued.

After losing their last game to the Morro Bay Brewers (6-3), the Reds ended their season with a 9-5-1 record. Stephenson said “Our guys should be really proud of the way they represented Cambria.”

The Cambria Cardinals (AA Minors; 6- to 10-year-olds) ended their season with an 11-3 record (after finishing 1-11 in 2013). The Cardinals won their final nine games in a row, ending their season “on a great note,” said coach Bob Kasper.
