After 2 1/2 years as Coast Union High School principal, Wade Lawrence is stepping down. Lawrence said hes going back to his passion: teaching kids. Hell return to the classroom Aug. 25, he announced at a recent district Board of Trustees meeting.
Lawrence has been with the district for 21 years. His last day as principal is June 30; he became principal in January 2012.
Lawrences salary as a social science teacher will be $78,176 for a 184-day work year. As principal, he was making $105,165 and working 217 days a year.
He told The Cambrian that the decision to step down had been difficult, and a conclusion was reached after a long, ongoing conversation with his family.
Im glad I tried it, Lawrence said of being the schools leader. Its been an honor to be principal at the high school, he told the trustees, school officials and audience members. But I really, really miss the kids, and teaching them every day.
Lawrence received his bachelor of political science degree from UC Santa Barbara in 1991, and his masters in educational leadership and administration from Cal Poly in September 2011.
The avid cyclist lives in Templeton with wife, Kathy, a special education teacher in Paso Robles.
