Local and regional olive growers will showcase their beloved crop at the 11th annual Paso Robles Olive Festival this summer.

The free event, organized by Paso Robles Main Street Association, is planned for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Downtown City Park.

The winners of the festival’s Olive Oil Tasting Competition will kick off the day at a breakfast planned for 7 to 8 a.m. at the park, located at 11th and Spring streets.

The afternoon will feature olive oil products, tastings, seminars, cooking demonstrations and a public cooking contest for olive-inspired dishes.

There will also be music, free olive oil ice cream, arts and crafts vendors and activities for the kids.

Wineries and breweries will also do tastings for an undisclosed fee.

Entry forms for the cooking contest are available online at www.pasoroblesolivefestival.com. As of Tuesday, June 17, the event’s website had not been updated for the 2014 festival.
