A Nipomo man accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child at an unlicensed day care facility has been charged with 14 felony counts of child molestation.

Adam Lieja Aguirre, 66, appeared in San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Wednesday, when he was appointed a public defender. His arraignment was continued to June 16.

He is charged with molesting a child who was in his wife’s day care on East Tefft Street in Nipomo. According to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, the child was molested by Aguirre several times over the past year.

Aquirre’s wife worked with five to six children at any given time, according to the county Sheriff’s Office.

No other victims have been announced, but the Sheriff’s Office is seeking more input from members of public, who can call 781-4500.

Aguirre was being held Thursday in San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $1.3 million bail.
