Grant and Ellie Magnuson named league MVPs — again

Coast Union senior earns baseball honor, his sophomore sister tops softball list

For the second straight year, the Magnuson siblings — Coast Union High School senior Grant and sophomore Ellie — have been named Most Valuable Players for the Coast Valley League. Grant pitched his Bronco baseball team to a CVL championship (10-0); and sister Ellie pitched the Lady Broncos to an 8-0 CVL softball title as well.

Grant, who helped his team at the plate and on the mound to the semifinals of the CIF Division 7 championship and was named Pitcher of the Year by the Bronco coaching staff; Ellie was named MVP of her softball team, which went 11-5-1 overall in 2014.

Broncos who were chosen on the First Team in the Coast Valley League include seniors Emmany Godinez (shortstop) and Quinten Raethke (second baseman and pitcher), and junior Gehrig Kniffen.

Sophomore catcher Lane Sutherland and senior first baseman Tommy Howard earned spots on the Second Team in the Coast Valley League for 2014.

Senior Cristina Plascencia, junior Patty Bucio and sophomore Ashley Martinez all made the Coast Valley League First Team in softball for 2014. Sophomores Madison May and Bailey Clark were chosen on the CVL Second Team for 2014.
