The end of an era

Arroyo GrandeJune 10, 2014

It has been like a death in the family to close Valley Auto Service in Arroyo Grande. But we are a victim of the recession, which hurt many of our customers, and the difficulty small businesses have surviving.

The Baldwin family had been in business in Arroyo Grande since 1950. First, we operated as Bob and Charlie’s Mobil Service for nine years at 99 Traffic Way and then as Valley Auto Service at 139 Traffic Way for 55 years.

We want to thank all of our customers through the years.

Randy Baldwin, who began working at Valley Auto Service in high school, has managed Valley Auto Service since 1997 when his father Robert “Bob” Baldwin was forced to retire because of severe eye problems. Randy will continue to sell tires and do service work with Mastertech Automotive, which will begin operating this month at the 139 Traffic Way location. He extends an invitation to his many customers to continue their association with him there.
