Atascadero Unified School District has hired two new school administrators.

Patricia Newman will take over as principal of San Benito Elementary School, while Michelle Fox will become principal of Carrisa Plains Elementary School, Santa Margarita Elementary School and the West Mall K-8 Home School program, according to news releases by district Superintendent Deborah Bowers.

Both Fox and Newman are new to Atascadero Unified.

Fox, who has more than 20 years experience teaching elementary school, has a doctorate in educational leadership from UC Santa Barbara.

She replaces two district administrators: Julie Ann Davis, who is stepping down as Santa Margarita Elementary principal to lead Monterey Road Elementary School, and Kathy Hannemann, who retires as Carrisa Plains Elementary principal and Atascadero Unified assistant superintendent of educational services at the end of June.

Newman is coming from Alaska, where she spent seven years as an elementary school principal and four years as a director of teaching and learning.

She replaces Joanne Rogoff, who is retiring June 30 as San Benito Elementary principal.
