Cal Poly women's high jumper Bryan just misses making NCAA meet

Cal Poly’s Danielle Bryan just missed qualifying for the NCAA track and field championships in the women’s high jump Saturday.

Bryan finished in a tie for 13th at 5 feet, 7 3⁄4 inches at the NCAA West Regional Preliminaries in Fayetteville, Ark. The top 12 finishers in each event qualified for the NCAA championships June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

Bryan initially was in an eight-way tie for 11th place when a jumpoff was held to break the ties. In the tiebreaker, Northern Illinois’ Claudette Day and Wichita State’s Ashley Petersen secured the final spots.

In the men’s triple jump, Cal Poly’s Ricky Strehlow finished 42nd at 47-1 3⁄4. Kansas State’s Devin Field was the top qualifier at 53-5 3⁄4.
