Starship, Blood Sweat and Tears to play free shows at Mid-State Fair

Arena rock band Starship and Grammy Award-winning jazz-rock band Blood Sweat and Tears are among the free acts performing this summer at the California Mid-State Fair.

Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, which plays Paso Robles on July 16, found fame in the 1980s with the hit songs “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” and “We Built This City.”

AC/DC tribute band High Voltage plays July 18, while indie folk band Wild the Coyote performs July 19.

Mexican acts Banda Machos and Fito Olivares take the stage July 20 and July 27, respectively.

Blood, Sweat and Tears, whose hits include “Spinning Wheel” and “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” performs July 24 with “American Idol” runner-up Bo Bice.

Other free acts include blues guitarist Elvin Bishop, country singer Crystal Gayle, Christian rock band MercyMe and Chicano rock trio Los Lonely Boys. Each will perform two concerts on the Frontier Stage, free with fair admission.
