Authorities said Thursday that 52 people were arrested for driving under the influence in San Luis Obispo County over Memorial Day weekend, a 30 percent increase for the same period a year ago.

There was one DUI-related injury and no DUI fatalities during the holiday weekend period, considered to be from just past midnight on Friday until midnight Monday.

Fourteen law enforcement agencies from around the county conducted a “Memorial Day Weekend Avoid the 14” campaign that included one sobriety checkpoint, six special DUI saturation patrols and routine patrol officers on the lookout for impaired drivers.
