The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office is warning consumers of an ongoing scam known as a Green Dot scam being reported by businesses and law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

According to a District Attorney's Office news release, residents and businesses are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to represent Pacific Gas & Electric Co. regarding a supposedly past due electricity bill. The caller will insist payment be made immediately through a Green Dot prepaid money card.

The caller will instruct the consumer to first purchase the Green Dot card and then call them back with the number on the back of the card.

PG&E first issued a consumer warning about the Green Dot scam in March. More information can be found on the PG&E public relations website Anyone with information or questions about the scam may call the DA’s Economic Crimes Unit at 781-5856.
