A truck hauling a double trailer knocked down a utility pole in a rollover accident Tuesday morning in Arroyo Grande.
Both lanes of Los Berros Road west of Falcon Crest Drive will remain closed until 10 p.m. Tuesday night and be closed again Wednesday morning as crews work to clear the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol, and was taken to a nearby hospital.
At approximately 8:47 a.m. Tuesday, the truck was traveling west on Los Berros Road between Falcon Crest Drive and Century Lane in what initial reports indicated was an unsafe speed when it failed to negotiate a curve. It overturned on the roadway, struck a pole and a tree and traveled down an embankment.
The collision with the utility pole caused the cable and phone lines to hit a second vehicle traveling in the westbound lane, which was also damaged, but the driver was unhurt.
A Five Cities Fire Authority engine with a crew of three responded to the scene, as did the CHP, an AT&T construction crew, county roads crews and a number of vehicles from Johnboy's Towing.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the semi cab and one trailer had been righted and removed from the scene, but Five Cities Fire Authority reports it will be several hours before cargo on the trucks second trailer can be removed to allow AT&T crews to reset a new pole and secure utility lines.
According to the CHP, the road will remain closed until 10 p.m. Tuesday so crews can repair the pole. The road will again be closed starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday until they can finish clearing the scene.
The CHP is requesting motorists use an alternate route.
