The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of an increase in reported thefts from vehicles in the rural areas of San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, more than a dozen thefts have been reported in the past month, each incident involving unlocked vehicles and valuable items left in plain view. Stolen items have included computer tablet devices, personal electronics items and cash.

Officials urge residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times, avoid leaving valuables in plain view and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
