SLO man suspected of DUI after crash involving three vehicles

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Monday after a crash involving three vehicles.

Police said Derek Johnson was driving northbound in the 3200 block of Broad Street at 5:15 p.m. when he crashed into the car in front of him. The force of the crash propelled the second car forward and caused it to hit another vehicle that was stopped for a red light.

The driver of the stopped vehicle was injured, according to San Luis Obispo police. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Officers said tests showed Johnson had been drinking alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing a collision with injuries, and taken to County Jail.
