A suspected DUI driver suffered major injuries following a crash Sunday on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 9 p.m. a Kia sedan driven by Roberta Silva, 56, of Atascadero, was traveling north on Highway 41 when she failed to turn at a curve in the road and drifted into the other lane, colliding head-on with a Dodge Ram traveling south.

Silva was taken to a local hospital with major injuries, and the occupants of the Dodge truck, two residents of Cayucos, suffered a broken leg and a minor hand injury.

According to the CHP, Silva was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, but she was not listed in custody in jail records as of Monday evening.

The collision caused major traffic congestion on the highway and is thought to have resulted in two separate vehicle accidents resulting in minor injuries.
