Two people were sent to the hospital and another to San Luis Obispo County Jail on Saturday following a wedding party in Pismo Beach, where officials say a guest severely injured two people in a parking lot brawl outside the reception.

At about 9 p.m. Saturday, Pismo Beach police officers responded to a report of a fight at the Moose Lodge on the 100 block of Main Street. According to a news release, officers arrived at the scene to find two victims with severe injuries thought to be caused by a knife or other sharp object. One man sustained numerous lacerations to his head and face and another suffered wounds to his hand.

Because of the extent of the injuries of the alleged victims and the large number of people at the scene, help from neighboring law enforcement agencies was requested. Officers from the Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande police departments and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office assisted in controlling the situation.

Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for their injuries, which, though severe, were not considered life-threatening.

Police arrested Daniel Berumen, 21, of Oceano on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with great bodily injury and mayhem — all felonies — as well as a parole violation and booked into County Jail.

As of Monday evening, Berumen remained in custody in lieu of $500,000 bail.
