No transparency

Morro BayMay 19, 2014

I was speaking with Morro Bay mayor Jamie Irons a few months after he was elected. I asked him if he was going to run for a second term. He responded yes, saying, “You can’t get anything done in just two years.”

How right he was! He ran on a theme of transparency in government, i.e., we would be able to see everything that was going on in the city. Opacity would have been a better theme. I have not seen anything positive that he has accomplished. Reading his literature gives you the impression that he is taking credit for things accomplished primarily by others, but says nothing of his actions that did not turn out well.

Transparency is lacking in why he voted to fire the well-respected city attorney and city manager. Transparency is lacking in why he slighted Cayucos, the city’s longtime partner in management of the wastewater treatment plant. I will not be voting for Irons this time around.
