Low-profile cases

San Luis ObispoMay 16, 2014

Tim Covello is widely regarded as having a keen intellect and considerable talent as a courtroom litigator. In his own literature, he often touts his experience in high-profile cases. Yet I support Dan Dow for district attorney because he brings his intellect and talent to the lowest-profile cases — the ones that truly determine what kind of community we live in. This includes sexual assault, domestic violence and victimization of the most vulnerable members of our community.

For more than 10 years, I volunteered with RISE (formerly SARP), as the organization provided critically needed services for victims of sexual assault. Dow works diligently — and often thanklessly — to support this effort. He serves as an essential link between victims, advocates and the District Attorney’s Office. He participates in fundraisers and public awareness events. Last year, when we worked to bring the Start by Believing public awareness campaign to town, Dow was eager to lend his support to improve our community’s response to sexual assault victims. Dow recognizes that the only way to hold sexual assault perpetrators accountable is by partnering effectively with victims. This is the type of leader we need in the District Attorney’s Office.
