Veterans offered health services, job help at weekend event

Veterans are invited to participate in the second annual San Luis Obispo County Veterans Stand Down this weekend.

Stand Down is an opportunity for homeless and at-risk veterans to connect with helpful services such as medical and dental attention, job opportunities, mental health services, legal advice, haircuts, showers, food, clothing, pet care and more. At least 38 service providers will be at the event to connect with veterans.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 801 Grand Ave. in San Luis Obispo. Sleeping arrangements will be provided for up to 150 veterans who want to stay overnight on Friday or Saturday.

Veterans are encouraged to pre-register for the event through the county Veterans Services office at 801 Grand Ave. For information, call 805-781-5766 or visit slovets.org.

Stand Down is a joint effort between area providers including Veterans Services, The Vet Center, Community Health Centers, Red Cross, American Legion, Goodwill, VFW, San Luis Obispo City-County Library.
