On behalf of Friends of Prado, I would like to thank the city of San Luis Obispo, the Police Department, The Downtown Association and all those associated with helping make the Change for Change program a reality. Proceeds from the program will go to Friends of Prado, a nonprofit that raises funds to help sustain the operation of the Prado Day Center, our local shelter that provides a safe location for homeless people during the day.
It includes showers, laundry facilities, free local telephone access, other accommodations and, most importantly, case management that facilitates clients movement toward improved self-sufficiency. A free lunch also is provided seven days a week by the Peoples Kitchen.
Our fundraising currently provides about half the money needed to operate the center. Funds from the Change program will further advance the centers mission to help move many of our less-fortunate population to a more sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyle.
