Reds beat Blues, Cards lose to Rockies

Special to The CambrianMay 8, 2014

The Cambria Little League Reds got timely hitting and clutch pitching and snapped a three-game losing streak by topping the Los Osos Blue 13-11 on Saturday, May 3, in Los Osos.

David May ripped a home run over the left field fence with a man aboard, Chase Volz went three for four at the plate and Carlos Guizar smacked a pair of doubles and came in to pitch and close out the win for the Reds.

Volz struck out six and gave up one run over three and two-thirds innings.  Coach Gary Stephenson said the victory resulted from a week of “hard work” and “self reflection.”

For the Cambria Cardinals, after beating the Morro Bay Diamondbacks, 10-6, Wednesday, April 30, thanks in part to three hits by Anhase  Martin, they lost to the Los Osos Rockies 9-6 on Saturday, May 3.

Coach Bob Kasper said his team played an error-free game on Saturday — “a rarity in Little League” — and, after scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh (all with two outs), had the bases loaded when the game ended.

Emi Pena played well for the Cardinals at first base and behind the plate, the coach commented. The Cardinals played the Padres on Wednesday, May 7, at the Cayucos School, after this paper went to press.
