Those embarrassed by the bad behavior of elected county officials we have seen too often should vote for Mike Byrd for District 4 supervisor. He will set an example of respect for the position he serves in and the people he works for — us.

I’ve known Byrd for some time. He has been a longtime community volunteer and leader in organizations as diverse as the Friends of the Price House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the local Housing Task Force and the Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce.

He would choose the best-qualified person for an appointment, regardless of party affiliation. A supervisor should represent everyone in the district — not just one political party.

Byrd is independent and balanced in his judgments and opinions. He listens to all sides and can work across ideological and party lines. He has done that for years.

If you want balance, integrity, respect and responsibility on the Board of Supervisors, follow my example and support Mike Byrd now, and vote for him in June.
