District Attorney candidate Tim Covello apologized Monday for a mistake he said one or more of his campaign volunteers made when they placed his campaign materials in mailboxes.

Covello is running for district attorney against Dan Dow.

On Sunday night, Covello said, someone alerted his campaign that Covello fliers had been placed in mailboxes.

It is illegal to stuff materials in mailboxes without paying for postage.

Covello said the incident happened while volunteers were canvassing neighborhoods. Covello said volunteers were reminded in an email not to put campaign materials in mailboxes.

“My entire campaign team regrets the error as well, and all volunteers have been reminded to not place anything inside of, or on, a mailbox,” he said.

“We will not let similar mistakes occur in the final weeks remaining in the campaign.”
