Peter Van Gansen went 2 for 4 with two RBI to lead a 13-hit attack, and Cal Poly’s baseball team clinched a three-game Big West Conference series with a 7-2 road win over UC Riverside on Sunday at the Riverside Sports Complex.
Jordan Ellis and Chris Hoo also drove in two runs each for the Mustangs, who got two hits apiece from Mark Mathias, Zack Zehner and John Schuknecht.
The Mustangs, who are ranked No. 4 by Baseball America, improved to 38-9 overall and 14-4 in the Big West.
Cal Poly starter Casey Bloomquist (10-1) was the winning pitcher. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
The Highlanders dropped to 20-23 and 8-7 in the Big West.

Sierra Hyland pitched a five-hit shutout with two walks and six strikeouts, and went 1 for 3 with an RBI to power the visiting Mustangs past the 49ers to sweep a key three-game Big West series.
Hyland (24-8) notched her 254th strikeout and 11th shutout of the season, which established program single-season records, according to a news release.
Courtney Tyler and Lauren Moreno also drove in a run apiece for Cal Poly, and Kim Westlund went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
The Mustangs improved to 31-18 overall and 12-6 in the Big West, and the 49ers fell to 36-16 and 13-5 in the Big West.

The Hawks scored five runs in the first inning and held on to eliminate the Cougars with a Game 2 victory in a Southern California regional series in Orange.
Bre Ojala hit a solo home run and Jeananne Ruck added a double for Cuesta.
