Jonathan Baldwin was 4 for 5 with an RBI and earned the save on the mound as the Paso Robles High baseball team beat Arroyo Grande 7-6 on Friday night at Arroyo Grande.
The Bearcats scored four runs in the first inning on four hits from Bailey Gaither, Baldwin, Matt Keller and Tyler Ridino.
Paso Robles led 7-1 going into fourth inning, when Arroyo Grande scored five times, including a two-run double from Jacob Guillen to bring the Eagles (10-11, 6-6 PAC 7) within one.
Baldwin came on in the sixth and pitched a shutout inning for the league-leading Bearcats (17-5-2, 11-3-1), who won two of three in their series with Arroyo Grande.
Gaither was 2 for 5, Erickson was 3 for 5, and Ridino was 2 for 4 with two RBI.
San Luis Obispo 8, Atascadero 0
Jeremy Jess pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts, giving up just five hits and two walks to lead the Tigers.
Jess was also 2 for 5 with two RBI, and Billy Donner was 2 for 3 with three RBI and a two-run home run for San Luis Obispo (4-17, 2-10 PAC 7).
Joe Johnson was 2 for 3 with a double as the Greyhounds (5-16, 2-10) stranded eight runners and had three errors.
Nipomo 8, Lompoc 2
Jose Ojeda was 2 for 3 with four RBI, and Jacob Valencia pitched seven innings, giving up four hits to lead the Titans.
Colton Blume had a two-run single for Nipomo (9-15, 3-6 Los Padres League).
Santa Ynez 8, Morro Bay 2
Noah Garcia was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Colt Caravahlo pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs as Morro Bay (3-17, 1-7 LPL) committed five errors in the fifth inning.
St. Joseph 11, Mission Prep 3
Chance Keegan was 2 for 4 with an RBI, two singles and a stolen base for the Royals (3-17).
Coast Union 4, Orcutt Academy 3
Tommy Howard scored the go-ahead run for the Broncos (7-0, 12-4 Coast Union League) when a balk was called on the Orcutt Academy pitcher in the sixth inning.
Quinten Raethke had a single, stole second, and moved to third on Howard’s base hit in the sixth for Coast Union. Jake McAvoy had a base hit, moving Howard to third and bringing in Raethke to tie it at 3.
Grant Magnuson struck out seven for Coast Union.
Valley Christian Academy 8, Coastal Christian 5
Brandon Spiller was 3 for 4 with two RBI, and Mitchell Rey was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases in the Conquerors’ loss.
Coastal Christian (3-4 CVL) led 3-1 after two innings and was tied at 4 after three before the Lions pulled away.
Nipomo 2, Lompoc 1
Anahi Vences scored both of the Titans’ runs, first on Ashley Ruiz’s RBI groundout in the first inning and on a wild pitch in the fourth. Nipomo (14-10, 6-3 LPL) only had one hit, and Lompoc had two.
Bri Sa allowed no hits through the first six innings. Sa had five strikeouts, and singled for the Titans only hit.
Morro Bay 10, Santa Ynez 3
Taylor Merrill had a double and three RBI, and scored two runs for the Pirates (12-11, 6-2 LPL).
Madelynn Martinez had two RBI. Marissa Tabares allowed five hits and struck out four.
Fallon Molnar also had a double for Morro Bay.
Coastal Christian 13, Valley Christian 12
Freshman Reanna Iunker hit the winning single in the bottom of the seventh for the Conquerors (4-6, 3-3 CVL), who trailed by five heading into their final at-bat.
Delaney Springer was 3 for 5 with a double. Hannah Brennan had a double and three RBI. Sara Henschel was 3 for 5 with three RBI.
Roni Garrison had 12 strikeouts and was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Catcher Amy Arnold threw out two runners.
Orcutt Academy 11, Coast Union 7
Maddie May had a two-run triple and a single for the Broncos (8-4-1, 6-0 CVL). Christina Plascencia had three hits and scored three runs.
Ashley Martinez was 3 for 4 with a double.
Santa Barbara 11, San Luis Obispo 7
Mason Hansen swept 6-4, 6-0, 6-4 for the Tigers (20-2).
The doubles team of Noah Cleere, and Alex Dill won two of three sets.
PAC 7 Prelims
San Luis Obispo’s Gaby Penvenne won the 200-yard individual medley preliminary in 2 minutes, 13.56 seconds, and teammate Rio Ericson won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.47.
Hannah Parson won the 50 freestyle in 26.04, and Sarah Parson won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.87 for the Arroyo Grande. Corryn Haynes won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.13 for the Eagles.
The boys prelims are today at 10 am.
TRACK AND FIELD
PAC 7 Prelims
Freshman Talley Hill and sophomore Angela Gemignani highlighted the prelims for Arroyo Grande, as both were the top qualifiers in the girls 1,6000 and 800, respectively.
Samantha Torres was a top qualifier in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles for Paso Robles.
The Eagles also had John Nichols qualify first in the boys 1,600 and 800.
William Ernst was the top qualifier in the boys 3,200, and he also won his 1,600 heat for San Luis Obispo.
Kyle Van Housen finished second in the pole vault at 13 feet for the Mission Prep boys.
Patrick Laird finished fourth in the discus at 127-11.
Alyssa Caldera placed fifth in the girls 400 (1:01.47) and the 200 in 27.83.
Caldera was part of the 4x100 relay team that finished sixth in 53.76 with Cami Monroy, Erine Stillane and Jaqueline San Jule.
Berwick named to all-state list
Atascadero senior point guard Robbie Berwick was named to the Division III all-state boys basketball team by Cal-Hi Sports.
Berwick was a two-time County Player of the Year for Atascadero and earned a scholarship to play at Florida State.
