A suspected DUI driver allegedly crashed a car into a San Luis Obispo home Thursday afternoon and then tried to run away.

At about 2 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a house on the corner of Bougainvillea Street and Hollyhock Way.

An investigation revealed that the driver, a 22-year-old man, was heading north on Hollyhock and didn’t negotiate a left turn onto Bougainvillea, but instead crashed into a garage.

According to police, he attempted to run away but was apprehended by officers a short time later.

The homeowners were not in the house at the time of the collision, and the driver was not injured.

Officers later determined that he was driving under the influence. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, and was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he remained Thursday evening in lieu of $5,000 bail.
