Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Hernandez was indicted Thursday on new charges connected to two alleged incidents that occurred while the former NFL tight end is being held in jail on murder charges.

A grand jury indicted Hernandez on charges of assault and battery and threats to do bodily harm, according to multiple reports.

The first charge is connected to an alleged assault on Feb. 25 in the Bristol County corrections facility.

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson previously told WHDH in Boston that Hernandez was involved in an altercation with another inmate in the unit where the former New England Patriots tight end is housed.

Hernandez is kept segregated from the general population because of the high- profile nature of his case and Hodgson didn't say how he came in contact with another inmate.

The second new charge is related to an alleged threat made inside the same facility last Nov. 1, according to WCVB in Boston.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty in September to a charge of first-degree murder and five accompanying weapons charges in the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Four others have been charged in the case, including Hernandez's fiancee and cousin.
