Wine-tasting for guide dogs

Harmony Cellars is hosting a fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Wine-tasting fees will be donated to Guide Dogs of America to help offset training and placement costs. The wine-tasting fee is $5 per person. The San Luis Obispo chapter of Guide Dogs of America will be onsite with guide puppies-in-training during the afternoons both days.

Horse adventures

Adventures with Horses’ spring session is from 9:30 a.m. to noon May 10.

Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to meet, greet, groom and walk calm and gentle equines. Children and their parents will enjoy learning about basic equine manners, body language, safety skills and round-pen activities.

Wear closed-toed shoes or boots. Events are at Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary at 6275 Cerros Pioneros in San Miguel.

Open house baby shower for kittens

Kittens have arrived at the North County Humane Society, and the group will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 16 and 17. The event includes free finger foods and bottles of water. To enter into the drawing, bring a donation item of heating pads, baby bottles, Purina kitten chow, toilet paper, Friskies “turkey and giblet” canned food and monetary donations toward the purchase of Breeder’s Edge Kitten Milk Replacer. Parks4Pups hosts student art contest

Parks4Pups is sponsoring a student art competition to paint a mural at the entrance to the Vineyard Dog Park. The competition is open to any student residing in the North County between the ages of 10 and 18. Winner of the contest will receive a $300 cash award, all expenses paid, community service hours and art instruction from a local professional artist who will supervise the project. Contest entries must be received by June 24, and the mural completed by Sept. 15.

Vehicle fee at El Chorro Dog Park

San Luis Obispo County Parks is now collecting a $3 vehicle fee on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through September at El Chorro Regional Park. Dog park visitors who visit on the weekends will be required to pay this fee.

Visitors are encouraged to purchase a $30 seasonal pass at the kiosk. El Chorro Dog Park volunteers receive a free volunteer pass — consider becoming a volunteer. For more information, call 772-1971.
