Why tow panga boats?

Arroyo GrandeApril 28, 2014

I agree with Richard Diel (in his letter April 23). Spend more than $300,000 for a boat so the sheriff’s office can tow a panga boat? Like Diel said, “If California voters legalize recreational use of marijuana in the next few years, this boat will be useless.”

How did the panga get here in the first place? It’s got a motor on it, maybe two. Can’t someone just get into the darn thing and drive it to wherever the sheriff wants it towed?

Surely the panga is sea-worthy; look how far it came to get here. What happened to common sense?
