The Morro Bay Fire Department is hosting a membership drive and open-house showcase Saturday for its Friends of the Morro Bay Fire Department fundraising arm that includes activities for children and a “State of the Union” address by fire Chief Steve Knuckles.

The event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Morro Bay Fire Station, 715 Harbor St. in Morro Bay.

The event is free and cake and refreshments will be provided. The Friends of the Morro Bay Fire Department has been instrumental in fundraising and grant writing for vital emergency equipment, as well as fire academy and paramedic school scholarships for reserve firefighters, Knuckles said.

The event will include an educational tour for kids of the “Fire Safety House” and adults will be offered hands-only CPR training.

Demonstrations will include rope rescues from the roof of the training tower and guided tours of the fire station.
