Prep Roundup: Whittle, SLO doubles team advance at Ojai tennis event

Arroyo Grande High's Sophie Whittle won her first two matches at the Ojai Invitational on Thursday.

Arroyo Grande High junior Sophie Whittle defeated Pacific Palisades’ Diana Silvers (6-0, 6-1) before beating Woodbridge’s Suchan Lin (6-2, 6-4) in the round of 32 in the girls 16 and under division at the Ojai Invitational on Thursday.
As the eighth seed, Whittle advanced to face Jennifer Gadalov at 11 a.m. today.
In CIF boys doubles, San Luis Obispo’s Mason Hansen and Josh Milla
defeated St. Francis’ Greg Alle and John Freer (6-1, 6-2) and Fountain’s Valley Darren Dinh and Winston Ngo (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) to advance to the Round of 16, where they will play Christian Francisco and Michael White of Vista Murrieta at 8 a.m. today.
Atascadero 15, Coast Union 3
Brendan Adams didn’t drop a game in singles play, and the doubles pairing of Yuma Olsen and Christian Wisberg won 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 to sweep its sets for the Greyhounds (13-5).
Morro Bay 11, Lompoc 7
Andrew Stella (6-1, 6-0,
6-0), Marcel Scheiwiller (6-2, 6-4, 6-0) and Riccardo Filippi (7-5, 6-2, 6-3) led the Pirates (7-5, 4-3 Los Padres League) by each sweeping their singles sets.
BASEBALL
Templeton 2, Agoura 0, 8 innings
Jake Walsh delivered the game-
winning hit, and Spencer Howard threw a complete-game two-hitter as the Eagles won a thriller at the San Luis Obispo Tournament.
Walsh was 2 for 3 with a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning for Templeton (10-7).
Howard allowed just two singles and struck out nine against the No. 21 team in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.
Crespi 5, Morro Bay 2
Shasta Clokey drove in a run in the seventh inning as the Pirates had just four hits in their loss at the San Luis Obispo Tournament.
Colt Caravalho pitched 51⁄3 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out three for Morro Bay (3-12).
Alemany 11, Paso Robles 1
Jonathan Baldwin and Bailey Gaither combined for four of the Bearcats’ five hits, both going 2 for 3 in their loss at the Righetti Spring Classic.
Gaither tripled and scored on a single from Baldwin in the sixth inning for Paso Robles (15-3-2).
BOYS GOLF
Arroyo Grande 422, Righetti 451
Jack Avrit was the medalist at a 6-over 78 to lead the Eagles at the Rancho Maria Golf Course.
Conner Sandman shot an 81, and Tristan Bermann-Lagano shot an 83 for Arroyo Grande (7-1, 5-0 PAC 7).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Orcutt Academy 3, Nipomo 1
The Titans (0-12) won the first set 25-13, but lost the next three 25-15, 25-11, 25-14.
TRACK AND FIELD
Templeton vs. Lompoc, Santa Ynez
Clayton Mackay broke the Eagles’ school record in the boys 110-meter hurdles, winning the race in 16.18 seconds. He also won the 300 hurdles in 42.13.
Miranda Barbour broke the Templeton school record in the 100 hurdles, winning in 16.87. Her second-place finish in the discus (112 feet, 2 inches) was also a school record.
The Templeton boys lost to Lompoc 77-36 and to Santa Ynez 106-30. The girls team fell to Lompoc 77-42 and Santa Ynez 93-42.
