Cambrian to share Holocaust memories

Ruth Cairns-Baker, 90, of Cambria, will take part in a Holocaust Remembrance Day gathering at Congregation Beth David in San Luis Obispo on Monday, April 28.

The event will commemorate the 6 million Jews and 5 million others who died in the Holocaust.

Cairns Baker will tell the story of her underground escape from Vienna, and Daniel Deitch will talk about being the grandchild of two Holocaust survivors.

The program will include live music, a candle-lighting ceremony led by local teenagers, artwork by local Jewish youth and a liturgy and teaching from local rabbis Linda Bertenthal and Janice Mehring.

Holocaust Remembrance Day begins at 7 p.m. at 10180 Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo.

Hosting the event are Congregation Beth David Temple, Congregation Ohr Tzafon in Atascadero, the JCC-Federation of San Luis Obispo and Temple Ner Shalom in San Luis Obispo.
