The American Legion celebrated the 95th birthday of the American Legion and honored past commanders and presidents of the Cambria American Legion family on Wednesday, April 16.

Commander Brian Griffin presented a certificate and an engraved plaque to retired Army 1st Sgt. Alan Doctor commemorating his earning this year's Ernie Wheeler Sr. Mr. American Legion Award. The plaque will hang in Club 432.

A crowd of about 80 shared the dinner, birthday cake and honored Doctor along with the past leaders of the local American Legion family. Doctor has served the American Legion for many years and served the Army in the Calvary Division in the Korean War. He’s frequently seen around Cambria proudly wearing his Calvary Stetson and was one of the stars in Cambria student Kyle Plummer's award winning Korean War Veteran documentary.

American Legion 16th District Commander John Velasquez of Guadalupe joined in honoring Doctor.
