San Luis Obispo County’s Democratic Party has endorsed Jamie Irons for mayor of Morro Bay.

Irons, 54, is the incumbent running against challenger Carla Wixom, a former City Council member, in the June 3 primary election.

The party’s Central Committee as a whole votes on endorsements after an interview process with the candidates, requiring a minimum 60 percent approval.

Mike Heyl, the party’s endorsement committee chair, said in a statement Irons “has proven that he can govern with vision and true leadership.”

“Despite a difficult first term, Jamie has accomplished a lot, and we feel that he is the candidate who will continue to steer the city of Morro Bay through the challenges to come,” Heyl said.
