College Roundup: Frias turns in strong 5,000

Chris Frias ran the fifth-fastest 5,000-meter time in Cal Poly history at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.


Frias, a senior, placed 10th in the Olympic development elite race, running a time of 13 minutes, 59.80 seconds.


MEN’S GOLF


Cal Poly at El Macero Classic


Jordan Wright carded a 1-over 73 at the El Macero Classic and enters today’s second in the top 20 at El Macero Country Club in Meadow Vista.


Wright is tied for 14th place with five other golfers.


The Mustangs are ninth out of 12 teams with a 15-over 303 total.


UC Davis leads with a 5-under 283. Mark Anguiano of Cal State Fullerton is the individual leader after shooting a 65.


WOMEN’S TENNIS


Fresno State 6, Cal Poly 1


In her final home match, senior Ane McPike was the only Cal Poly player to win.


McPike beat Tanya Murtagh in singles 6-4, 6-4.


Cal Poly (6-10) will go into the Big West Conference Championships as the seventh seed and will play second-seeded UC Irvine on Friday in the first round.
